MY UNCONQUERABLE SOUL | Ernest Wang

“I thank whatever gods may be
for my unconquerable soul.”
Excerpt from “Invictus” by William Ernest Henley

I guess the gods have set me free
Free, at last, yet still on parole
Rolling rips meet my bruised batterboards at sea
See my weary, sucked down the rabbit hole

Hold my injurious frame and all my mischance
Chance to pray to the long disavowed
Vow that each chemo and scan adds to my expanse
Expand my days with your smile, on me you endowed

Endow my palms with your infinite amperes
Amp up our nodes with warmth to keep me unfrayed
Fray the lapsing locks and the mass subduing our frontiers
Front of brain will you always be in every decade

You are my huckleberry and my first mate
You are the reason I thank and extol
You are the master of my written fate
You are the captain of my unconquerable soul
