“ ‘Before, During, After’ is an acrylic painting representing a cardiopulmonary arrest and a bad outcome. The art of delivering the news, the humanity in being there for the loved ones and using empathy as a therapeutic window for physician well-being and decompression after such an event becomes vital. It's a lesson learned from experience - the art of being human the face of loss.”

Ahmed Nadeem is a writer, physician, and assistant professor of emergency medicine with Stritch School of Medicine at Loyola University. His recent work appears in AAEM’s Common Sense, HEAL (Humanism Evolving Through Arts and Literature), Pulse: Voices from the Heart of Medicine and Hektoen International.
