CHEMO-od: Exploring the emotions experienced by a woman undergoing chemotherapy | Annunziata Tricarico
“A few years ago, I was diagnosed with aggressive breast cancer. I chose to respond by expressing my emotions through art, creating the project ‘CHEMOod.’ My goal was twofold: to find balance through painting and to explore what my artworks could reveal about my conflicting emotions. I approached this journey with joy and delicacy, using energetic colors and a style blending bandes dessinées, influenced by my years in Brussels, and caricature illustrations. I planned twelve portraits, one after each chemotherapy cycle, but the project and treatment were interrupted after the seventh cycle due to serious complications. ‘CHEMOod’ transforms my personal journey into a visual narrative of vulnerability, resilience, and the healing power of creative expression.”
