“This captures patients on comfort care. You don't always get to see the family and the fresh flowers. Patients carry their stories. Not everyone has the opportunity to be there in someone's last moments, and this is something precious about medicine. That moment is human and dignified.”

Maria Antonia Espinosa is a second-year internal medicine resident at the University of Connecticut. She graduated from medical school in Ecuador. Espinosa is passionate about the arts, particularly painting with oil pastels and playing the violin. Her father is a sculptor in Ecuador. Art has allowed her to express the emotions unique to becoming a resident and caring for patients.
